In Year 4, we have been learning how to order fractions on a number line. We have explored how to place fractions correctly by thinking about their size and comparing them to familiar benchmarks, like one-half and one whole. To help us, we counted the intervals between whole numbers to work out how many equal parts the whole had been divided into. We used our knowledge of numerators and denominators to find the right position and noticed that the more parts a fraction is divided into, the smaller each piece becomes. By practising with different fractions, we have built our confidence in understanding their value and how they fit on a number line!
