Forest school: week 3 🦉
Date: 20th Jun 2017 @ 10:05pm
The theme of forest school this week was the birds who inhabit our wonderful forest school space. We listened to the'Owl babies' story and went on to create dens for the birds that enjoy our trees. The children made bird feeders using bird seed, lard and pine cones and we discussed where might be the best space to hang them. We made magical sculptures using sticks and string which we used to adorn our frees to attract the birds. We also discussed the shapes of our sculptures. Following on from the children's interest in minibeasts last week we continued exploring our area for insects and we were very excited to discover a plant containing lost of tiny caterpillars! Some of the children worked as a team to make a large den for the birds, and we talked about how we had to use 'quiet voices' so not to scare the birds!
At the end of our session we toasted marshmellows over our camp fire and reflected on our experiences. It was wonderful to listen to all the extended language from the children as they talked about their new skills, about how we care for nature and look after the creatures that visit our habitat. We also talked about safety in the forest school and the importance of keeping cool in the heat. We can't wait for our next session next week!
